How to file your personal property tax return

If your business owns personal property, you need to file a State Tax Form 2/Form of List every year. You have three options:

Before you get started online

You need to file by March 1. If you filed online last year, your username and password are the same.

If you haven’t filed online before, you will get a username and password in our January mailing. This allows you to file online.

Complete the online form Before you get started by email

You need to file by March 1. To complete the State Tax Form 2/Form of List, we’ll need to see:

You can email your Taxpayer Information Form, Personal Property Asset Form, and additional documents to persprop.efa@boston.gov.

Data CD by mail Before you get started by mail

Keep in mind

To make sure we are efficient and accurate, we require all personal property owners to file their form electronically. To get a paper copy of the State Tax Form 2/Form of List, you need to show us that you have a hardship that prevents you from filing electronically.
